THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE UNIDO’s PROJECT WILL BE ABLE TO SAVE MORE THAN 2 MILLION UAH IN A YEAR THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RECPC’s TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS

Konf Kyiv 2015 2

The conference "RESOURCE EFFICIENCY OF ENTERPRISES IN THE KYIV REGION" was held on 8th of December 2015 at the Exhibition hall of Science Park "Kyiv Polytechnika", during which the results of resource efficient and cleaner production’s projects in the Kyiv region by the end of 2015 were presented.

The conference was organized within the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Project "Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production through Establishment and Operation of the Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine.

The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre was created in 2013. The main purpose is toprovide services for increasing resource and energy efficiency of enterprises, greening of industries through combined engineering and technical assessments of production processes at enterprises with the aim of developing technical solutions and recommendations for improving efficient use of production resources, based on the capabilities of the enterprise (ways of reducing production costs; reducing energy, materials and water consumption per unit of production; reducing waste by optimizing construction and design of products; increasing the share of waste in the production process, etc.). The founders of the Center are NTUU "KPI", SP "Kyiv Polytechnika" and the Ukrainian Union of industrialists and entrepreneurs. The project is implemented by the financial support from the Governments of Austria and the Swiss Confederation.

During 2015, 6 enterprises of the Kyiv region were participated in the Project. According to the results of the comprehensive technical audit, the Centre proposed technical solutions, which provide:

• Reduction of water consumption by 100 300 m3/year

• Natural gas saving by 4403 m3/year

• Reduction of energy consumption by 128 464 kWh/year

• Reduction of material consumption by 94 t/year

• Reduction of CO2 emissions by 64 t/year

The total economic effect, that can be achieved from the implementation of the proposed solutions, is about 2,1 million UAH/year.

As the receiving party, the conference was opened by the Deputy of the Pro-Rector for Research of the National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI" Valeriy Barbash. He emphasized the need for quality training of engineering and managerial staff with specialization in the field of resource efficient and cleaner production and reported that the University gives special support to the researchers who are working on this problem.

Addressing the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Austrian Embassy in Ukraine, Klaus Iro stressed that increasing energy and resource efficiency in industrial activities is still a challenge which is very global. It was demonstrated by the agenda of the recent Climate Summit in Paris. For Ukraine, as the Deputy Head of Mission said, these issues are particularly relevant in view of the fact that the Ukrainian economy has one of the highest index ofenergy consumption in production processes in the world.

The Coordinator of projects for the sustainable use of energy resources of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine, Anna Kuznetsova said that the Project "Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine" is aimed at the providing quality services to enterprises that seek to achieve European standards of resource efficiency.

The Director of Corporate Security of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs,Sergiy Khudobin noted that outstanding results were achieved by the enterprises-participants of the project reveal the need to extend this experience to other regions and to involve new enterprisesin the project. In his view, a significant scientific potential of national universities and academic institutionswill actively contribute to the success of the project in Ukraine.

The Director of the ResourceEfficient and Cleaner Production Centre, Igor Shylovych stressed that, as the experience of the enterprises-participants of the project shows, the majority of technical solutions proposed by the Centre does not require additional investment from an enterprise, and the effect of its implementations can be a tangiblereduction of inefficient resource and energy consumption.

The conference was attended by representatives of more than 30 enterprises, research and development organizations, international funds.

konf Kyiv 2015

The conference "RESOURCE EFFICIENCY OF ENTERPRISES IN THE KYIV REGION" was held with the aim of expanding the number of participants of the UNIDO’s project, attracting new enterprises and raising awareness of the public, companies, scientific communities and other stakeholders about resourceefficient and cleaner production (RECP). Since 2013 the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre has examined 50 enterprises in four regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Vinnytsa, Odessa and Zaporizhia), has trained more than 40 certified experts on RECP. Since 2015 the offices of the Centre are also in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions.
