Opportunities for increasing resource efficiency of companies

On June 9th, 2015, the awareness-raising seminar "Improving resource efficiency of the companies: ways of cooperation with the Center of Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECPC)" was held in the conference-room of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskyi City Council. The event was supported by the City Mayor Mr. Kostin. The seminar was organized by the Center of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (Kyiv) together with Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky City Council. The seminar was attended by the representatives of private and municipal enterprises, educational and medical institutions, NGOs from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky district.

The seminar focused on the perspectives of the development of the project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) "Promoting the adaptation and adoption of resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) through the establishment and operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) inUkraine" in Kyiv region, particularly, in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky district. The project aims to increase the competitiveness and environmental responsibility of the Ukrainian enterprises by implementing RECP methods, practices and technologies.

The seminar was opened by Mr. Pohorelyy, the First Deputy Mayor of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky responsible for the executive bodies work, and Mr. Shylovych, the Director of Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre. They welcomed the participants and encouraged them to productive work and constructive discussion of the UNIDO work in Ukraine: experience and the main achievements of RECP Centre. The Centre experts, Y. Haydayenko, I. Shylovich and O. Tchaikovsky presented the basic principles and methodology of the UNIDO and Center achievements obtained since the Centre creation in 2012. They also provided specific examples of increasing companies’ productivity indicators through the introduction of resource-efficient and cleaner production model, demonstrating that compliance with RECP model allows significant saving of the resources, water and energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and getting closer to the European technical standards. The essence of the technique is to identify economically and technologically inappropriate consumption of energy, water and materials during the manufacturing process and to develop relevant technical solutions. Introduction of RECP model helps to reduce emissions of harmful gases and effluents of contaminated water into the environment without reducing volumes of production.

The second part of the event was dedicated to the discussion of practical examples of energy efficient technologies, including water treatment, lighting, recycling, drying grain and other agricultural production areas. Local authorities, companies and organizations in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky discussed areas of cooperation with the UNIDO project, the prospects of its implementation in the region, particularly, on the enterprises of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskyi city and district.
