Competitiveness increase is the guarantee for business survival

The conference "IMPROVING RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN ZAPORIZHZHIA REGION: UNIDO PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS AND OUTLOOKS" in Zaporizhzhia, November 30th, 2016, is the second event in the series of upcoming final conferences at the year end. The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre (RECPC) organized the conference within UNIDO project framework.

The Conference presented cumulative annual project results on resource efficiency and cleaner production implementation at seven (7) enterprises and facilities in Zaporizhzhia region. These seven enterprises became project implementation participants in 2016.

Having conducted comprehensive technical audits the RECPC team worked out the solutions and proposals ensuring:

Natural gas savings in equal to 8 118,8 MWh annually;

Electricity consumption 311 440 kWh annually;

CO2 reduction 1 769 tons annually.

The overall economic impact to be achieved thanks to the proposed solutions implementation amounts to 20 803 836 UAH / year.

Over the past two years, Ukraine has been suffering a critical decline tendency in industrial development. The demand does not meet the proposal as overall production decline goes in parallel with a decline in commodity products sales and that phenomenon has become very noticeable. Therefore, the manufacturers have started showing big interest to using and implementing RECP options. The RECP practices and technologies ensure companies and enterprises optimizing equipment operation and sufficiently reducing resource and energy consumption thus, as a result, improving production performance, caring about the environment and raising companies’ competitiveness status.

Guided with the above the RECP Center provides technical consulting services through rapid company screening to find resource efficiency potential followed by the development of low-cost implementation options. The Centre also performs comprehensive project and manufacturing assessment of the company based on material and energy flow sheets analysis. RECPC conducts training on basic RECP methods for companies and enterprises personnel; gets experts certified in RECP methodology. The Center also provides consulting services on environmental management and expert evaluation to obtain preferential financing and certification according to ISO 50001 and ISO 14000. The Center has been actively cooperating with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), etc. to support the Centre’s investment projects.

The conference "IMPROVING RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN ZAPORIZHZHIA REGION: UNIDO PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS AND OUTLOOKS" aims at expanding the UNIDO project participants involved, attracting new businesses and increasing public awareness, companies, academia and other stakeholders on resource-efficient and cleaner production (RECP). Starting in 2013, the RECPC has conducted over 80 enterprises in six regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia) and has trained over 100 certified RECP experts.
