Discussion “Women in Industry” took place at the resource Efficient and Cleaner production Center in Kyiv on January 22nd 2014. The discussion was attended by the RECPC staff, representatives of partner organizations (International Center of Business Ethics Development/KPI , Gender Education Center/KPI), Center trainees, representatives of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine. The discussion moderator Olena Suslova, gender expert, the head of the board of Information and Consulting Women Center introduced the discussion participants into the results of gender review of industrial sector initiated by the Center.
The participants discussed the following issues:
Businessmen, entrepreneurs, governmental officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations and branch business associations jointly discussed social and economic and social and political situation in the country at the extended session of the Board of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Ukraine (UIEU). The session was also attended by Yuriy Boyko, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for Ecology, Natural Resources, Energy and Space.
Currently situation in Ukraine is unfavorable for business operation and ensuring of national economy competitiveness level, stated the UIEU representatives. Unresolved urgent issues related to high level of products energy intensity, significant depreciation of the main assets, low labor efficiency and competitiveness and extremely high credit interest rates result in gradual loss of local products markets, decline in industrial sectors, unemployment, etc.
Businessmen expressed their concern with the situation in national economy. In 2013 industrial production decreased by 4,7% if compared with the similar period of the previous year. The country investment attractiveness also decreased which resulted in reduction of direct investments into national economy.
Face-2-Face Workshop “Capacity Development to promote a resource-efficient, environment-oriented private sector”
On February 4-5th (Bonn), 2014 Kyiv Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Center representatives participated in the Face-2-Face Workshop of the program “Capacity Development to promote a resource-efficient, environment-oriented private sector” which is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with the United Institutional Development Organization (UNIDO). The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The seminar which was attended by the representatives from 14 resource efficient and cleaner production centers (RECPCs) from Eastern Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia took place in Germany, Bonn.
The 2nd stage of the Ukrainian Student Contest in energy management was hosted by Institute for Energy Saving and Energy Management at NTU "KPI" from the 14th to 17th of April 2014. The event was attended by 45 representatives from 11 leading universities of Ukraine: Vinnitsa National Technical University, Zaporizhzhya National Technical University, National Aviation University, NTU " Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" National Technical University " Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute", National University " L’viv Polytechnic" National University of Water Management and Nature, Sumy State University, Ternopil State Technical University named after Ivan Pul'uj, National University of Food Technologies, Krivoy Rog National University.
T.V.Sakalos, the executive director of Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production Center in Ukraine, greeted the participants and made presentation about the Center and its activities. The Center representatives also took part in the award ceremony of the contest winners and presented them with gifts from the Centre.
A regular meeting of the Steering Committee of the project "Promoting the adaptation and adoption of RECP (resource efficient and cleaner production) through the establishment and operation of a Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine" took place in the premises of NTUU "KPI" on April 16th, 2014.
The meeting was attended by the Steering Committee members: M. Zgurovsky, the Rector of the NTUU "KPI", Johannes Aigner, Deputy Ambassador of Austria in Ukraine, Petra Widmer, Deputy Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine, Petra Schwager, Project Manager, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and representatives of partner organizations - Ministry of Economic development and Trade of Ukraine and the Science Park "Kyiv Polytechnic". Following the presentations made by I.L.Shylovich (RECPC Director) and Petra Schwager (UNIDO Project Coordinator) the meeting participants discussed the progress made by the project in 2013 and work plan for 2014.
Resource-efficient and Cleaner Production Centre together with the Ukrainian Union of Manufacturers of building materials and with the Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine held a seminar on "Implementation of resource-efficient techniques and cleaner production in enterprises of the construction industry." The seminar focused on the discussion of the principles and methods of implementing the principles of resource-efficient and cleaner production (RECP) in Ukraine in the frame of “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood” project (EaP GREEN) and its demonstration component implemented by the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development.
The workshop participants discussed the increase of competitiveness of domestic enterprises producing construction materials through efficient use of resources while reducing environmental impact and preparation of products of these companies to participate in "green" public procurement tenders.
On June 11th Center of Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECPC) held a workshop "Financial and Technical Instruments for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) for agro-processing sector companies"
The workshop focused on the discussion of new mechanisms for attracting financial resources for implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production measures in agro-processing sector. The issues discussed at the workshop included existing CPC funding programs and approaches to crediting companies operating in agro-processing sector and introducing RECP technologies. The workshop participants were acquainted with business cases demonstrating implementation of RECP projects in various regions of Ukraine; they were also informed about the experience of agro-processing sector development in Switzerland.
Conference "Experience of introduction of resource efficient and cleaner production model in enterprises of Vinnitsa region" took place on the 29th of July in the city of Vinnitsa. The conference was organized by Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre with the support of Vinnytsia Regional State Administration.
The conference focused on the results of implementation of the project aimed at introduction of resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) methodology on the Ukrainian enterprises supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and implemented by RECP Centre.
Anatoliy Oliynyk, the Head of Vinnitsa Oblast State Administration, took part in the conference. The Head of the region told about key aspects of energy supply in Vinnytsia region.
On August 6th, 2014 the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Center together with the Ukrainian League of Construction Materials Producers conducted the Round Table “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production at the enterprises of construction materials’ sector’ in the framework of the Demonstration Project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) - Programme EaP GREEN.
The event participants included Ivan Salii, the President of the Ukrainian League of Construction Materials Producers, representatives and technical managers of local industrial enterprises, representatives of research institutions and scientific journals.
