Сonference “Implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine”

On December 14, 2016 in Premier Hotel “Rus” the national conference “Implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine” was held. The event was organized in a framework of UNIDO’s project “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) in Ukraine” and demonstration component “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP)” under programme “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighborhood of European Union” (EaP GREEN), which is financed by EU.

Among more than hundred participants it were present the representatives of Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Swiss Cooperation Office, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine, regional state administrations and Kyiv district administrations, business associations, NGOs, international environmental projects and programs, and also the representatives of more than 30 enterprises from different regions of Ukraine.

At the conference participans discussed the issues of “green economy” and ways of solving the problems, that the enterprises are facing on their way towards greening their production. There also were presented the results of RECP implementation at the enterprises of Ukraine. The representatives of the companies shared their experiences and impressions from accomplished work.

One part of the conference was dedicated to revision of EaP GREEN programme and its RECP demonstration component. UNIDO international coordinator Tatiana Chernyavskaya told about EaP GREEN programme as the regional initiative of resource efficient and cleaner production demonstration in the countries of Eastern Europe. National coordinator of the project Mariia Tsybka summed up the results of RECP project in a framework of EaP GREEN programme. National communication and advocacy RECP expert Kateryna Romanova presented to the audience the Primer for successful business “Techniques and practices of recourse efficient production”. Also in a framework of the conference were presented other RECP publications, in particular “Resource efficiency pocket guide for the construction materials sector. Saving money and increasing productivity in Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource efficiency guide for construction materials sector”.

The special event at the conference was dedicated to awarding UNIDO certificates to experts and demonstration companies from construction materials sector for the participation in RECP project of EaP GREEN programme. These companies, in particular, were “Building Industry Plant”, “Plant of Reinforced-Concrete Construction #1”, "Jaguar", Mechanical Plant “SONET”, “Rakhny brick plant”.

In a framework of the event, a round table “RECP Clubs as an effective tool for demonstration of RECP benefits and development of industrial enterprises” was held. It contained an active discussion of the results of pilot stage and work of the RECP Clubs in Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions and also the discussion on the prospects of RECP Clubs’ development and dissemination support from side of enterprises and state bodies. There was presented the adapted for Ukraine “Facilitator Manual” that has been developed to facilitate replication of RECP Clubs in different regions of Ukraine.
